Calling the shots

American Fitness,  March-April, 2003

Jackie Vankatwyk has found her niche in the fitness training world--she trains golfers. A player herself, she understands what golfers need. "Most golfers who come to me are already physically fit," states Vankatwyk. "However, certain muscle groups must be reconditioned, especially for golf."

Her fitness techniques focus on cardiovascular, resistance and flexibility training. "The combination of strength and flexibility has the greatest influence on club head speed," she explains. "The body has to have the flexibility necessary to make the proper swing, while strength is imperative to drive the ball the distance of the fairway." Golfers trained by Vankatwyk also begin to notice better mind-body coordination, a key factor in golf.
