New revised Primary Group Exercise Certification
October 4, 2002 marked a special milestone in AFAA history--it was the day the first revised Primary Group Exercise Certification was held. The program was led by Monica Garber, master certification specialist, at Shoeber's Athletic Club in Pleasanton, California. In addition to a group of enthusiastic fitness instructors, several other AFAA certification specialists and examiners also attended.
"One of the main reasons the AFAA Board of Certification and Training took on the task of updating the former Primary Certification," states Lauri Reimer, director of consultant services, "is because there is so much more diversity in group exercise these days than 20 years ago. When AFAA designed the first group exercise certification that included a practical exam, all we had was traditional high- and low-impact aerobics classes. The revised program and exam process is more expansive."
AFAA certified instructors interested in learning about the updates should attend the current Primary Group Exercise Certification for continuing education.
