Heartburn Remedy Homerun

American Fitness,  May, 2000

Jim Palmer, the Baltimore Orioles pitcher and sportscaster, suffered serious pain from persistent heartburn for the last 10 years. Although the pain was so bad it sometimes affected his game, Palmer didn't see a doctor. Instead, he struck out on his own, changing his diet, sleeping propped up in bed and taking over-the-counter medications. It wasn't until he lost his voice that Palmer finally made an appointment with his family physician. When Palmer was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), his doctor prescribed Prilosec[R]. For the past five years, he has been free of heartburn.

According to Phillip O. Katz, M.D., of The Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, many people endure persistent heartburn without realizing effective prescription treatments are available. As part of the "Two Strikes and You're in the Doctor's Office" educational program, Palmer is urging people who experience persistent heartburn two or more days per week to see a doctor. For more information about GERD or a copy of the complete prescription information for Prilosec, contact Jim Coyne at (800) 942-0424, ext. 1656, e-mail jim.coyne@astrapharmaceuticals.com or visit www.acidcontrol.com.
