Risk Reduction
American Fitness, May, 2000
It used to be that when exercise expert Gary Yanker received questions from people with serious medical problems and injuries, he would refer them to a doctor. He gradually realized that most doctors were unfamiliar with exercise techniques and weren't comfortable prescribing exercise regimens. Consequently, Yanker began searching for a way to treat injuries from high-impact exercises and sports so athletes could work out with a reduced risk of injury. His quest for knowledge has evolved into Exercise Rx: The Lifetime Prescription for Reducing Medical Risks and Sports Injuries (Kodansha International Ltd., $35), an exercise manual and medical reference guide for the prevention and rehabilitation of over 1,000 diseases and injuries, many of which have never been connected to any exercise prescription.
