Among sports with more than 7 million participants, tennis players, fitness buffs and downhill skiers report the highest Internet usage, according to data in the new National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) study, "Internet Usage Among Sports Participants in 1999." Of the 10.2 million people who played tennis in 1999, 62.8 percent reported they spent time on the Internet. Among the 24.1 million working out at clubs, 62 percent spent time "surfing," as did 60.5 percent of the 7.4 million skiers. Lowest usage was reported by those hunting with firearms (31.4 percent of 16.6 million participants) and those fresh water fishing (38.2 percent of 40.8 million participants).
