American Fitness, May-June, 2002 by D.K. Howe

Mention Qi Gong and most people envision a group of people clad in loose-fitting clothes, performing a series of slow, mysterious movements. Qi Gong, meaning "energy work," is a practice of relaxed and focused activity. Qi Gong is the cultivation of energy, a practice handed down from the ancient Chinese.

To enlighten us, Barbara Brown and Gunter Knoferl have written Qi Gong: The Chinese Art of Working with Energy (Thorsons; $24.95), an introductory guide to Qi Gong philosophies, exercises and traditions. In their book, the authors introduce the Qi Gong state--a relaxed and attentive place where the mind is calm and focused on the exercise. The book also contains easy-to-follow photographs and diagrams that demonstrate the elements of this practice.

Qi Gong: The Chinese Art of Working with Energy is available at most bookstores or order by calling (800) 462-6420.
