Expand your consciousness

American Fitness, May-June, 2004

As Americans, we're obsessed with our appearance. Throughout the day women worry: "Do these pants make my butt look big?," "Does my stomach stick out too far?" or "If only I had bigger boobs ..."

A recent book helps women exorcise their negativity and discover their true essence. The theory is when we transform our minds, our bodies will follow.

"It has been proven that weight loss does nut improve body image, but rather body acceptance leads to weight loss," state Karen Wolfe, MBBS, and Deborah Kern, Ph.D., in Create the Body Your Soul Desires: The Friendship Solution to Weight, Energy, and Sexuality (Southern Century Press; $20.00).

Wolfe and Kern blend science, nutrition, psychology and spirituality and offer practical tools to help women discover the body their sods desire through what they call The Conscious Body Method. The core to The Conscious Body Method is working with a buddy who will create a loving, nonjudgmental space.
