Walking magazine, the special interest lifestyle magazine published by The Reader's Digest Association, Inc., has formed a marketing partnership with leading footwear retailer Road Runner Sports to launch walkingshop.com, a new online shoe store for fitness walkers. The online store provides consumers with brand name active footwear, apparel and accessories, as well as footwear reviews from other consumers.

Sporting Good Manufacturers Association (SGMA) is supporting the federal legislation proposed by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), which will allocate $400 million over 5 years to America's schools to create and/or enhance physical education programs. Kelley, the renowned Boston Marathon runner, became the ninth athlete to be inducted into the Road Runner Sports Run of Fame on Monday, April 17, 2000. On Sunday, May 7, 2000, the north side of the Huntington Beach Pier transformed into an arena for the fittest men and women in California. The R.D. Olson Construction California Fitness Challenge 2000 is designed to determine the fittest all-around team and individual in the state. The challenge consists of a three-mile run, 1 minute of pull-ups, 1 minute of push-ups and ends with an "Insane Obstacle Course." A portion of the proceeds benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which provides grants for athletes with physical challenges such as spinal cord injuries.
