More Than a Job

As a teenager, I struggled with my weight. After having my baby (18 years ago), I decided to make a commitment to exercising and eating right, not just for me, but for my family as well. My health resolution has become a prominent part of my life--especially after a friend who owned a gym encouraged me to teach classes and got me certified through AFAA. Since then, teaching has been a part of my life and I am loving every minute of it. Now my husband and I are both aerobic instructors at a local gym. Thanks AFAA, it's great being certified and earning money doing what I love!

Where Have All The Slides Gone?

I really enjoyed your article, "Sliding Back?" (March/April 2001), about the misguided implementation of the slide and how it should be used in aerobics classes. Last year, our club purchased a large number of Reebok[R] slides and now has a very popular slide interval class. Mountainside has two other gyms in the area who also want to offer this slide class. Unfortunately, we did not purchase enough slides for all three of our gyms and now Reebok[R] says they are no longer selling them--which we can't believe! Do you have any idea of where we can purchase more slides? Maybe used exercise equipment places? I would appreciate any help you can provide.

I am happy to hear that your club has found the slide to be a beneficial addition to your interval classes and to hear that you want to expand the program in other gyms. Reebok[R] offers the slide on their Web site and can be reached at watagy@fitnessequipment.com or (800) 235-8341. If this information does not prove fruitful, you can also order from Speed City, whose Web site is speedcity.net or from the Rehab Outlet at rehaboutlet.com. There are also many other physical therapy and sports training companies that offer the slides, so if you want to compare products and prices I would recommend surfing the Web. Good luck with your search and I wish you all the best in your classes!
