Performance STRETCHING. - Review - book review

American Fitness, Nov, 1999

If you're one of those people who skip the stretching portion of your workout, shame on you. Stretching is a prerequisite for fitness. In Performance Stretching (Human Kinetics, $19.95), due out in December, 1999, Deborah Ellison explains how to stretch and balance muscles. "If you begin sport or fitness training with muscle imbalance, you may initially be able to compensate for it," says Ellison. "However, as you spend more time in that activity, muscle imbalances will emerge in the form of comprised performance or an injury."

The book presents 55 exercises, complete with photos and proper technique tips. It also features a special "lay-flat" spine so it can easily be used while stretching, as well as a special troubleshooting section which discusses common inflexibility problems and shows how to correct them before they become injuries. For more information or to order the book, call (217) 351-5076 or (800) 747-4457.
