Leading from the heart

American Fitness, Nov-Dec, 2004

Susan Winter Ward, the creator and host of the television series Yoga for the Young at Heart, shares her personal style of yoga in the 58-minute VHS/DVD Accessible Yoga for Everybody. While the poses are nothing new, the ones Ward chooses (none are overly difficult) and the way she strings them together, creates her signature style. In front of a background of pastel pink and turquoise, the colors of the sunset in the breathtakingly beautiful Rocky Mountains of southern Colorado, Ward takes us and her handful of students through a gentle, effective class suitable for students of all levels.

Throughout the workout, Ward reminds students to open their heart, not only as a cue to lift the chest, but as a way to reach into the source of compassion and healing, love and light. "Let your heart lead the way. It's a good way to go through life," she says.

Ward's extensive list of credentials is impressive. For more than 12 years, her passion for learning and teaching has taken her on journeys throughout the United States and other countries, including Thailand and Israel. She is a board member of the American Yoga College and conducts classes and workshops at retreats and conventions throughout the world. Her television series, Yoga far the Young at Heart, airs regularly in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Other videos by Ward include Embracing Menopause ($19.95 VHS/DVD), Sitting Fit Anytime ($19.95 VHS/DVD), a seated yoga for those who sit too much and the physically challenged, and Yoga For the Dung at Heart: Accessible Yoga for Seniors and Beginners of All Ages ($19.95 VHS/DVD).
