Meet your match

American Fitness, Nov-Dec, 2004

Two new online networking services are matching up fitness partners. At www.athleticmeet.com you can meet other athletes to date, be friends or split the rent with. The new PartnerUp! feature can also help you find teammates and partners for a wide range of athletic and fitness activities.

Members fall into three categories:

* Public members can join for free, post profiles and search, but cannot contact other members.

* General members can contact other members using Flirt, AthleticMeet's anonymous e-mail system, and by open e-mail.

* Club members who are part of an affiliated sports organization enjoy all the privileges of public and general members, receive discounted fees and the right to participate in special offers.

While many people join AthleticMeet.com to find that special someone, workout partners, friends or roommates, others are looking for coaching advice or simply people to correspond with.

Another Web site, www.active.com, can help you locate, learn about and register for events across the country in as many different sports as there are states. You can search for an event or activity by sport, city, state or month, register and pay online. Active.com also provides exercise, nutrition and health information and contains an interactive training plan to prepare, track and log workouts, upload data and receive feedback from certified coaches. The Nutrition Tracker tool tracks calorie intake and nutrients. Athletes can also sign up to receive a monthly Active Nutrition newsletter, which features articles from our very own Nancy Clark. To learn more about these and other benefits, like shipping sports equipment free-of-charge on America West flights and travel discounts, visit www.active.com.
