American Fitness, July-August, 1992 by Jeanette Dvorak
Do you remember watching the "Love Boat" series, thinking how fun it would be to have Julie McCoys job? If fitness on the high seas is your idea of a fantasy work climate, author Mary Fallon Miller has some advice for you in How To Get A Job On A Cruise Line (Ticket To Adventure, $12.95).
With the trend toward younger and more active travelers enjoying cruises, there are many shipboard occupations for fitness professional - aerobics instructors, nutrition counselors, fitness program directors and even lecturers and hosts. Competition is fierce for these highly coveted jobs, according to Miller, who owns a cruise travel agency.
Her book provides all you need to know to pursue a cruise line career, from resume tips and advice from those who do the hiring to job and company profiles. Apparently not all "Love Boats" are alike. To determine which specialized cruises will best fit your professional skills or if you are right for a made job, Miller suggests a short-term job during summer or holiday seasons.
As the book's testimonials reveal, there's more to working shipboard than vacationing for a living. How To Get A Job On A Cruise Line prepares you for a smooth sailing job search.
