Audio Reminder: Cardiac Arrest. - Review - book review

Journal of Family Practice, April, 2000 by Richard M. Baker

Audio Reminder: Cardiac Arrest $15. KEN GRAUER. KG/EKG PRESS, GAINESVILLE, FLA, 1999.

Ken Grauer, MD, has become a familiar lecturer at continuing medical education conferences on electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation and other cardiology topics. It is a pleasure to see that he can transfer his teaching skills to the written format.

Grauer authored 4 booklets in 1998. The 2 subjects are ECG interpretation and arrhythmia/cardiac arrest. He used 1 booklet on each subject to address the basics and the accompanying booklet to present case studies with questions and answers. The booklets are pocket-sized and have rapid indexing on the inside cover. They are remarkably concise and practical and are packed with easy-to-read information. He uses the style of his lecture material with many boxes of clinical pearls or key points, boldface type, and ECG diagrams. These ECG drawings are actually a weakness of the books because they are always easier to read than the real tracings.

The target audience is new clinicians and those with many years of experience. Those in the latter group may benefit from the review and useful new information about electrophysiology in 12-Lead ECG& Practices without the need to manage cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the hospital may not need the update in Arrhythmia Management and Cardiac Arrest. Residents and medical or nursing students in their clinical years could use both of these handy references, and large discounts from the cover price of $10 are available for bulk purchases.
