Health Care Financing Review, Winter, 1994
Medicaid Statistics: Program and Financial Statistics--Fiscal Year 1993 is the third annual edition of a compilation of national Medicaid summary statistical data. Medicaid Statistics was published in response to the increasing need for a consolidated source of current data on a variety of Medicaid program and financial characteristics. It is intended to provide to
Medicaid program administrators and other interested parties timely data for management or other analytical purposes. Medicaid Statistics provides selected summary statistical data generated from a variety of data sources. The first section contains a brief narrative overview of the Medicaid program. The next section describes the data sources used for the publication. Because this is a compendium of tables, it is important for the reader to understand that the data did not originate from the publisher's office. The experts to contact, both Federal and State, are listed by subject at the end of the book.

Chapter 3 contains national summary graphs and supporting tables that display characteristic data for a general program overview.
Chapter 4 contains program statistics. The bulk is made up of 41 program statistics tables developed from the HCFA Form 2082, a collection of State-reported recipient and payment data which include such information as eligibles, recipients, and vendor payments by maintenance assistance status, basis of eligibility, and type of service. Also included are demographic tables on age, gender, and race.
Another section provides data on the early and periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment program. These tables are created from the HCFA Form 416. The final section has population tables broken down by age and gender, provided by the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
Chapter 5 contains financial statistics that come from the HCFA Form 64. The statistics found here are an accounting of actual expenditures made by States. These tables show Medicaid expenditures and administrative payments by provider type or by service type for both States and the Federal Government. This section also includes third party liability collections and cost avoidances, also from the HCFA Form 64.
A fiscal year 1994 version should be out in early fall. Medicaid Statistics is available to the public through the National Technical Information Service at (703) 487-4650. The reference number is PB94100112.
