Beating back the demon

M & F covered my story of overcoming reflex sympathetic dystrophy nerve disease in "Success Stories" in August 1993, but I've had several bouts of this dreaded disorder in the ensuing years. Each time I've beaten back the demon with bodybuilding, and I'm happy to say that after also recovering from an injury to my left hand and undergoing three surgeries, I placed fourth in the master's division at the 2003 Muscle Mania in Boston. I'd like to thank my bodybuilding mentor, Mike Katz, for all of his help over the years. I'm grateful to be involved as a promoter with Big Mike in the NPC Connecticut State Bodybuilding Championships, along with other projects, and look forward to competing in the NPC Master's Nationals in July in Pittsburgh.
