NIBBLES. plus selenium improved the immune system's response; broccoli - zinc 20 mg - 100 mcg - Brief Article

Nutrition Action Healthletter, Sept, 1999

* Immune Boosters? In a study of institutionalized elderly people, a daily supplement of zinc (20 mg) plus selenium (100 mcg) improved the immune system's response to flu vaccines, but a daily supplement of vitamin C (120 mg), beta-carotene (5 mg), and vitamin E (15 mg) did not. Neither supplement cut the number of respiratory or urogenital infections.

Arch. Intern. Med. 159: 748, 1999.

* Broccoli for dinner. Women who reported eating broccoli at least once a week had roughly half the risk of heart disease compared to women who ate none. Broccoli's flavonoids may make it protective, but it's too early to say.
