Get The Munchees - Health is Wealth's Tofu Munchees - Brief Article

Nutrition Action Healthletter, Sept, 1999

Health is Wealth's Tofu Munchees sound too silly for words--little whole-wheat pillows that are stuffed with organic tofu cheese and broccoli or spinach. Don't laugh. Pop them in the oven and these mini egg rolls turn into delicious "cheesy" centers surrounded by decadent I-can't-believe-it's-not-deep-fried crust.

Six Broccoli Tofu Munchees have just five grams of fat (none of them saturated), 140 milligrams of sodium, 160 calories, and three grams of fiber. (The box lists two Munchees--1 oz.--as a serving, but you could easily eat six. That would match the 3-oz. serving listed by other munchie-type makers.) The Spinach Tofu Munchees have a bit more sat fat (one gram) and sodium (320 mg).

The company's seven other Munchees--including Burrito, Pizza Tofu, and Veggie--also come wrapped in whole (or mostly whole) wheat crusts. And while they have too much sodium for us to recommend, they're worlds better than most of the competition. Totino's Pizza Rolls and La Choy Mini Egg Roll Munchers, for example, average about twice as much fat and sat fat.

So when you get the munchies, head for the Munchees.
