Topic: RSS FeedFree brochure on choosing kid's car seats - 1997 Family Guide to Car Seats
Healthfacts, June, 1997
The American Academy of Pediatrics has just published a 1997 Family Shopping Guide to Car Seats. The brochure states that no single brand stands out as the safest or the best car seat; however, price should not be your only guide. Baby car seats are listed separately from those for larger children, and brand names, price range, and in some cases, a brief description are all included. Warnings of car seats to avoid include those made before 1981 and those without a label providing the date of manufacture and model number.
The brochure also provides information about air bags, how to buckle your child safely, and how to check for correct installation in the vehicle. It warns that the back seat of a vehicle is always the safest place for a passenger, and that babies should never be placed in a rear-facing car seat in the front. Included in the brochure is a $5 coupon toward any car seat purchased at Toys R Us.
For a free copy of the brochure, send a self-addressed business-size envelope to the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dept. C-Shopping Guide, P.O. Box 927, Elk Grove Village, IL 60009-0927.
