PediaTrick - using topical aspirin to reduce pain and swelling caused by insect stings

Pediatrics for Parents, June, 2001

Sting Soothers

Here's a trick for lessening the pain of insect stings. The first step is to make sure the stinger is out. Once you are sure it's out, then tape a slightly moistened crushed aspirin tablet over the sting site. Aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), helps to lessen the inflammation caused by the insect's venom.

This treatment is said to result in nearly immediate relief of the pain and inflammation.
