Ear Infections and Diaper Rash

Many mothers know that when their baby is treated with amoxicillin for an ear infection he's going to get a bad case of diaper rash. For doctors to believe this there has to be a study proving it.

A recent report found a twofold increase in the number positive cultures for Candida albicans (the organism that causes yeast infections) from the rectum and skin folds in children after taking amoxicillin for 10 days. Infants who developed diaper rash had a significant increase in the recovery of Candida albicans from their diaper areas.

If your child is prone to develop a diaper rash after a course of antibiotics, pretreatment with a prescription antifungal cream may prevent the rash from occuring at all.
