Correction - Correction Notice

Vegetarian Times, Oct, 1999

In "New Hope for Alzheimer's" [June], we incorrectly referred to an Alzheimer's drug as Araset. It should have read Aricept.

In "Take It Off, Keep It Off" [August], we explained the Harris Benedict formula for computing your daily calorie requirement incorrectly. Here are the correct formulas for men and women:

To compute your basal metabolism: (Men) 66.4 13.7 times your weight in kilograms 5 times your height in centimeters - 6.8 times your age. (Your weight in kilograms equals your weight in pounds divided by 2.2 and your height in centimeters equals your height in inches times 2.54.) (Women) 655 9.6 times your weight in kilograms 1.8 times your height in centimeters - 4.7 times your age.

Your result should be close to your weight times 10, an easier way to estimate your daily calorie needs.
