Speedy Results - mammograms - Brief Article

Vegetarian Times, Oct, 1999 by Cristin Marandino

Thanks to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), women will now get their mammogram results in writing within 30 days of being examined. And women whose results suggest a cancerous growth are required to be notified within five days. Best of all, you won't be sent a bunch of medical jargon. The new law mandates that the patient report be written in layperson's language (a formal medical version will be sent to the physician).

This new regulation is the final step in the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992, which requires all mammography facilities to meet set guidelines for equipment, accreditation and operator training.
