Letters
Vegetarian Times, May, 2002
Next week is my 85th birthday. I just finished reading your wonderful and knowledgeable Vegetarian Times and have decided to become a vegetarian--in addition to not smoking, not drinking, not eating junk food and not eating in restaurants. Living this lifestyle and reading your great magazine, I am sure to enjoy life for many more years.
S.F. "Kash" Kashdan St. Petersburg, Florida
I have been a subscriber to Vegetarian Times since becoming a vegetarian 12 years ago. I have enjoyed the changes to the magazine over the years, but I would like to see more letters to the editor printed in each issue. And I would like to see the travel column reinstated.
I also would love to see the return of the "Answering Machine" column. As a new vegetarian, it was one of my favorite departments in the magazine.
Sandy Hugill Via e-mail
Your timing couldn't be better. Just as we've revitalized the design of the magazine, waive also revamped our editorial direction--to include all of the departments you've missed. With this issue, we have included more letters from our readers. And in the next few months, we will be publishing major travel features, which will include Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, Mendicino County in California's wine country and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The "Answering Machine" column you miss will be replaced by a new and, we believe, more helpful column for new vegetarians, tentatively titled "Veg 101." Stay tuned.
I really like the recipe index, but I have been wondering why recipes are no longer labeled "vegan," even if they are.
Maria Barcelo Via e-mail
Many of our readers are not vegans, even vegetarians, but simply people who want to live longer, healthier lives by enjoying meatless meals. Rather than label our recipes, we thought you would be the best judge of which recipes to choose.
I am disappointed that in the past few years you've had very few articles geared toward men and wonder why you want to alienate your male readers. After reading each issue, I feel that you really have no interest in having male readers, or you feel that men should not be vegetarians.
Ken Dornbaum Via e-mail
Most of our readers are women, but our male readers are important to us--as are the husbands, fathers, sons, brothers and significant others in the lives of our female readers. Starting with this issue, you'll see more men, children and families throughout the pages of VT.
