Victory at C

Vegetarian Times, Oct, 2002

After years of silence on the subject, the prestigious Journal of The American Medical Association (JAMA) in its June 19, 2002 issue, has announced that it is "prudent for adults to take vitamin supplements" to help prevent disease. Reporting the results of a review of scientific literature by Robert H.

Fletcher, MD, and Kathleen M. Fairfield, MD, both of the Harvard Medical School faculty, the article notes that most adults do not get sufficient levels of vitamins C as well as A, B-6, B-12 and E "by diet alone" and could benefit from supplements. Supporters of supplements, who have felt for years that the medical establishment has treated supplements with disdain, regard the JAMA endorsement as a major victory.
