Exercise--whether it results in weight loss or not--still helps lower cholesterol, researchers from Duke University Medical Center have found. Participants in the study of 84 overweight, sedentary adults, published in the November 7, 2002 New England Journal of Medicine, were encouraged to maintain their weight levels, and those assigned to jog 12-20 miles per week showed greater improvement in cholesterol levels than those who merely walked.

"Some exercise is better than no exercise," lead researcher William Kraus, MD, says, pointing out that those who did not exercise at all "showed worsening cholesterol levels." So--move it!
