Just the facts - Nutritional aspects of soy - Letter to the Editor

Vegetarian Times, July, 2003 by Andrew Black, Patricia Black

Congratulations on your excellent story on the safety of soy ("The Truth About Soy," April 2003). Soy-bashing articles appeared in most magazines for many years, leading writers to pen statements such as, "For now, the cautious approach may be to limit soy intake or to eat only fermented soy foods." The unfounded fear-mongering had caused reluctance with virtually no evidence--to give soy the whole-hearted endorsement it so richly deserved. Cautions about "too much" had become trendy among the pseudo-scientific.

But Michael Downey's story clearly relies only on science, not the convoluted logic of those who happen to make a living selling anti-soy rhetoric. Studies have exploded these cultish, anti-soy rants. VT--and Downey--have ended the pro-soy taboo. And for that, biochemists and other scientists everywhere say thank you so much--and congratulations!
