E for everything - Brief Article
Vegetarian Times, July, 2003
What can't vitamin E do? Three new studies show only a few of the ways vitamin E can help you stay healthy. Research from the University of Siena in Italy, published in the March 2002 International Journal of Dermatology, shows that vitamin E supplements can help treat atopic dermatitis, a skin condition characterized by inflammation and itching.
Vitamin E supplements can also help block prostate cancer growth, according to research conducted by Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Science Center in Toronto and reported in The Journal of Urology in October 2002. Finally--though this won't be the last encouraging news about vitamin E--it also lowers the risk of age-related mental impairment. That's the conclusion of a Tufts' Nutrition Research Center study reported in the October 2002 Nutrition Reviews. Vitamin E occurs naturally in wheat-germ, sunflower, safflower, olive and coconut oils.
