Supersize us? - Scoop: health fitness nutrition diet supplements personal care environment - increased food portions - Brief Article

Vegetarian Times, June, 2003

Adopting the practices of fast food restaurants and convenience stores, Americans now routinely supersize their snacks and meals--even at home. "Between 1977 and 1996, food portion sizes increased both inside and outside the home for all categories except pizza," say University of North Carolina researchers in the January 22/29, 2003 Journal of the American Medical Association.

Food items at supermarkets are also much larger than they used to be, say New York University nutritionists in February 2003's Journal of the American Dietetic Association.
