Western women - Scoop: health fitness nutrition diet supplements personal care environment - colon cancer - Brief Article
Vegetarian Times, June, 2003
A 12-year study suggests that a diet high in beef, desserts, fats and refined grains--meaning white bread--may increase the risk of colon cancer in women. The study, published in the February 10, 2003 Archives of Internal Medicine, found "a significant positive association" between what the researchers call a "Western diet" and colon cancer risk.
A diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other healthy foods proved far less risky for the 76,000 female adults in the study.
