Because post-menopausal women tend to lose their ability to taste sweets, they are more likely to eat more and even sweeter foods to satisfy their taste buds. That's the conclusion of a study at Turkey's Ankara University, published in the April 2003 British Dental Journal. While the habit might be bad for their teeth, it may also put women at an increased risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
Men in the study showed no such decline in their ability to taste sweets--which only shows they have no excuse for supersizing their desserts!
