Got calcium? - Scoop: health/fitness/nutrition/diet/supplements/personal care/environment - Brief Article

Vegetarian Times, Sept, 2003

In the first large study of calcium consumption in adolescents, girls aged 9-14 who increased their dairy intake by only one serving daily were as much as 2 pounds lighter than girls who did not. Researchers at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Kaiser Permanente Clinical Research Center in Honolulu found that girls with more dairy in their diets also had lower rates of body fat.

Whether the calcium was derived from dairy or supplements made little difference.
