Vegetarian Times,  Dec, 2003

Sinclair of Harvard Medical School, who published his findings in the August 2003 Nature, discovered a chemical called resveratrol, which is one of a class of chemicals that appears to mimic the effects of a low-calorie diet.

If people respond to the chemicals the way biologists suspect that they may, the life span of humans could be extended by 30 percent. The effect of resveratrol in their drinking habits could explain why the French can consume fatty foods without shortening their life spans.
