Japanese apparel makers have begun including amino acids and other dietary supplements in fabric in the belief that the substances will enable people who wear the clothes to maintain the pH balance of their skin or to cool down more quickly after sweating. Very Cool, a brand of jeans, is laced with xylitol, a sweetener said to help keep wearers cooler when they perspire.
Working together, Mizuno Corporation and Ajinomoto Company have developed tennis and golf clothing that includes arginine, a blend of 20 amino acids that supposedly helps rejuvenate skin.
