Mythology
Vegetarian Times, Jan, 2004
Less than half of all prescriptions for Viagra are refilled, reports The Viagra Myth, a new book that explores the societal conditions that made the diamond-shaped pills seem like such wonder drugs. Evidently the pills work--so well, in fact, they make couples confront more serious difficulties in their relationships, which often have little or nothing to do with physical performance.
"The Viagra Myth has less to do with the effectiveness of the medication than with our cultural propensity to look for the easy fix," says author Abraham Morgentaler, MD, a Harvard Medical School urologist. When the quick fix doesn't solve all their problems, many men find they prefer physical frustration to the difficult work of facing underlying emotional issues.
