Consider nonviolence
Vegetarian Times, Feb, 2004
In her December 2003 "Feed Your Soul" article, Lori Tobias mentions that the American Yoga Association recommends a vegetarian diet as a way to practice nonviolence. They recommend a diet that includes low-fat dairy products and eggs.
When the Hatha Yoga Pradipika was written in 1500 AD, long before factory farming methods were developed, there would have been no inconsistency in this advice. Unfortunately, in the 21st century, the vast majority of eggs and milk comes from factory farms where animals suffer in the name of efficient production.
There are many good reasons to go vegetarian. Those who wish to respect the principles of nonviolence should give some thought to going vegan or at least leaning in that direction.
