Macrobiotic diets may be to blame for the return of rickets, caused by vitamin D deficiency "Exclusive breast feeding, extensive use of sunscreens, increased use of day care facilities and unusual diets that provide little vitamin D and calcium" may also play a role, says Brian Wharton, MD, of London's Institute of Child Health and co-author of the report in the October 25,2003 issue of The Lancet.
