Heart-healthy hawthorn

Hawthorn, an herb used to treat circulatory problems since the 1800s, may help moderate heart disease symptoms by reducing oxidation of LDL, the "bad" cholesterol. In a report in the August 2003 issue of the journal Pharmazie, French researchers found that hawthorn's effectiveness can be traced to its high concentration of polyphenols, a family of antioxidants.
