Chew on this
Vegetarian Times, July-August, 2004
Is chewing gum the next functional food? Maybe so, according to a study by the University of Illinois at Chicago, presented in March 2004 to the International Association for Dental Research. Big Red, a Wrigley's product, contains cinnamic aldehyde, an essential plant oil that reduces halitosis--causing bacteria by more than 50 percent.
These same bacteria are also responsible for the development of cavities and gum disease. What's next? Cancer-fighting Froot Loops?
