Smoke gets in your wounds

Vegetarian Times,  March, 2005

Cigarette smoke--even second-hand smoke--can impede skin healing and lead to more scars, researchers from the University of California, Riverside, have found. In a paper presented to the December 2004 meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology, the scientists reported that the smoke interrupts new cell growth and leads to the clumping of skin tissue at a wound's edge.
