Go electric?
Vegetarian Times, March, 2008 by Paul Scott
While Jeannine Szczech is right to be concerned about pollution from coal plants (Letters, January/February, p. 10), the concern is misplaced when it comes to the electric vehicle (EV). More than 30 studies have looked at the "well-to-wheels" pollution generated when running an electric vehicle versus a gas vehicle. In every instance the EV was cleaner. (For the most comprehensive study, see epri-reports.org.) If you are concerned about coal pollution in your utility's grid mix, get involved with others in the community to dean up the grid. Buy a solar system for your house or, if that's not possible, lobby your utility to buy more wind power.
