Don't mix your meds - Lifelines - Brief Article

Vibrant Life, Jan-Feb, 2003

If you take a low-dose aspirin to protect your heart, don't take ibuprofen (such as Motrin or Advil) during the few hours before you take the aspirin. The ibuprofen can block the anticlotting effect of aspirin. Occasionally taking ibuprofen several hours after your regular aspirin does not have the same effect. If you regularly need to take ibuprofen, as many arthritis sufferers do, you may be canceling out the benefit of the aspirin. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how these drugs may interact and when you should be taking them.
