Sleep is important to your child's grades - Lifelines - Brief Article

Vibrant Life, March-April, 2003

Parents want their children to get plenty of sleep, in part to help them do well in school. But recent research shows that common bedtime practices may in fact be keeping children from getting to sleep at night.

Watching television and working on a computer--two practices that many parents believe relaxes their child--may instead be rousing children right as they approach bedtime. The culprits are the bright lights behind TV and computer screens, which act as a stimulant to the brain. Shutting down electronic entertainment devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime can allow a child's sleep to arrive in a more timely fashion.
