1 New ACPE Course

Helps Design New Medical Systems for Patient Safety

Reducing medical errors and improving patient safety are obviously key concerns of all patients. Patients expect safety, but safety alone will not earn their loyalty and trust.

This innovative, four-day course will show the steps that should be taken to move from a system that is safe to a system that is perceived by their customers as being safe. Only then will health care providers be able to move beyond the perception of safety toward trust and ultimately customer loyalty.

Key topics of the program debuting April 27 in Las Vegas are:

* Why systems to create safety are insufficient to create the perception of safety

* Using root cause analysis (RCA) and human factor re-engineering to understand errors and improve systems

* Workflow redesign and tools for process improvement at the patient-provider interface

* Measuring and sustaining success

2 CMS Open Door Forum at the Spring Institute in Las Vegas

ACPE's Spring Institute in Las Vegas is the broadcast site for the April 2004 CMS Open Door Forum. These forums are the communication innovation initiated and promoted by Tom Scully, administrator of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The purpose of this initiative is to open the doors of the agency and listen to key stakeholders, to hear about the issues they are experiencing and to dialog about what can be done to help them.

The forums are national teleconferences where participants get to talk directly to federal officials who oversee CMS programs and services. Physician executives who attend Spring Institute will have the opportunity to participate in the forum, voice concerns about federal health care policies and get their questions answered by key decision makers.

Plan now to attend Spring Institute and let your voice be heard.

3 ACPE's Leadership Academy

Physician CEOs-Getting to the Top and Staying There

Many physician executives never reach the top because they don't know what it really takes to get there. ACPE's Leadership Academy is the definitive course for physician executives who could--and should--be CEOs.

During the April 27-28 course, participants will learn the qualities recruiters value: the importance of operational experience--and how to get it and the keys to landing an interview and leaving a lasting impression.

4 Group Discounts Now Available

ACPE believes in team learning. And starting with the 2004 Spring Institute, health care organizations sending five or more participants can receive discounts up to 20% off the member prices.

Participants need not take the same course(s) at the Institute. Administrators and other clinical professionals are also welcome to attend ACPE educational programs.

Call the College at 800-562-8088 to get more details on group discounts.
