Physician Executive, May, 2001

Larry Cohen, DO, MBA is chief of staff of Kennedy Memorial Hospitals -- University Medical Center in Voorhees, NJ. Cohen holds an MBA from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA and is a clinical professor at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey at the School of Osteopathic Medicine. The Kennedy Health System, established in 1965, is a multi-site health services delivery system serving communities of southern New Jersey.

J. Eric Haas, MD is the network medical director for Aetna's Jacksonville, Florida, market. Haas is responsible for managing and developing primary care and sub-specialty physician networks in the Jacksonville area. Haas previously worked at GlaxoWellcome, where he was a senior regional medical scientist with responsibility for scientific research studies in physicians' offices and physician education on allergy and asthma disease state management. He formerly held positions as chairman of the physicians operating board of Baptist/St. Vincent's Primary Care, board member of the North Florida Physicians Association and chief of family medicine at Baptist Beaches Hospital. Haas earned his bachelor's degree from Kent State University and his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. He completed his family practice residency at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA.

Arthur Lazarus, MD, MBA, FACPE, CPE is director, regional medical research specialist, within the medical department of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Group in the Great Lakes region. He works on the central nervous system team. Lazarus was previously vice president and corporate medical director of behavioral health for Humana Inc.

Jerome Sampson, MD, MSA, CPE is chief of staff of the VA Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. Sampson, whose specialty is internal medicine, served as acting chief of staff for about one year before being permanently chosen for the post. Sampson was awarded his CPE in March 2000.

Karen Sterling, MD, MMM is medical director for Gateway Health Plan in Pittsburgh PA. The organization is a Medicaid HMO. As pediatrician on the staff, Sterling will be particularly involved with children with special needs. Sterling attended medical school at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and completed her residency in pediatrics at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. She was awarded her certificate in medical management and completed the masters in medical management at Tulane University.
