Physician Executive, May-June, 2003

Robert Jacobs, MD, MBA, is chief medical officer for SUNY Downstate Medical Center and its University Hospital of Brooklyn. He provides oversight for all facets of clinical business management, including an initiative to enhance overall efficiency and quality of care. Previously, Jacobs served as vice president for clinical affairs at New York University Medical Center and chief executive officer of University MSO, a management services organization created by NYUMC and University Physician Network to manage the collaborative and business relationships between the medical center and its physicians.

He oversaw physician management services for 800 physicians and also facilitated implementation of an electronic medical records system and other technology tools to enhance physician business practices.
