Debra A. Smith, DO, MIHM, MBA was elected to the board of trustees of the American Osteopathic College of Occupational & Preventive Medicine. She also serves on the Council for International Osteopathic Medical Education & Affairs of the American Osteopathic Association. Smith is the corporate medical director for Highmark Life & Casualty Group, a national disability, life, employer stop-loss (excess risk), Medicare supplemental and regional workers' compensation carrier, located in Pittsburgh, Pa.

An economics graduate of Youngstown State University, Smith received her medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and her residency training in preventive medicine from Emory University. She earned her Master of International Health Management and Master of Business Administration from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.
