Question: what ACPE courses do I need to complete Section I and go on for the MMM or MBA?

Physician Executive, July-August, 2004

answer:

Section I is made up of 150 hours of CME courses through ACPE--123 hours from core curriculum and 27 hours on elective topics of interest.

A common Section I curriculum looks like this:

* Physician in Management -- 35 hours (21 core, 14 elective)

* Ethical Challenges -- 12 hours (core)

* Three Faces of Quality -- 24 hours (core)

* Practical Fundamentals of Informatics & EHealth Strategies -- 3.5 hours each (6 core, 1 elective)

* Techniques of Financial Decision Making -- 24 hours (core)

* Essentials of Health Law -- 12 hours (core)

* Managing Physician Performance -- 24 hours (core)

* Reconciling Values -- 12 hours (elective)

These courses can be completed in as few as six months or spread out over several years, depending on your schedule and educational needs. The most distinct advantage of the ACPE Section I program is that it allows our members to receive training in fundamental management principles at their own pace without having to commit to a long and costly program. At the same time, our members are receiving CME and building a transcript that can be used to meet the educational pre-requisites for the MMM through Tulane University, Carnegie Mellon University or University of Southern California or online MBA from University of Massachusetts.

For more information and answers to your other questions about ACPE's degree program, go to www.acpe.org/degrees, email cjimenez@acpe.org or call 800-562-8088.
