Now accepting applications for ACPE fellowship

Physician Executive, Nov-Dec, 2004

December 31, 2004, is this year's deadline to apply for Fellowship within ACPE. Becoming a Fellow is one of the highest honors you can receive in the field of medical management and only Fellows can be elected to the Board of Directors or become officers of the ACPE.

Becoming a Certified Physician Executive is step one on the road to Fellowship in ACPE. The next qualification is contribution to the field of medical management that is recognized outside the organization of employment. This is generally demonstrated through published articles and books, papers, teaching, significant speaking engagements, research and service to the profession.

Active membership and participation within ACPE's programs and activities are also considered in the evaluation process.

Members ask us--What are some additional ways to contribute to the profession? And, how can I increase my participation in the College?

Here are a few suggestions:

* Be an active leader of an online network discussion for ACPE

* Organize and maintain a regional group of physician executives for at least three years

* Do short "Amazon.com like" book reviews of the best books on finance, organizational development, marketing, etc.

* Help maintain the ACPE Clinical Updates

* Make a "Member Speak" presentation at the Spring Institute

* Be a mentor to someone new to the field

While none of these activities alone is a guarantee of advancement, participating or contributing in any of these ways will be considered by the Council of Fellows in its appraisal of each applicant.

For applications or questions, call ACPE at 800-562-8088 and ask for Charisse Jimenez
