Simple sun-kissed hair color - Lookgreat

Shape, June, 2003

Who's got time to spend hours getting gorgeous summer highlights? Now you can lighten your base color and get highlights in about an hour with L'Oreal Couleur Experte ($22; available at drugstores). Just apply the allover permanent color on hair (choose from one of 18 shades) before rinsing. Then use the specially designed wand to draw highlights on locks, rinse out again and condition.

The highlights complement the base shade, so you can't go overboard. If you don't want to change your base color, but still want high lights, try Clairol Herbal Essences HighLights ($10; at drugstores), which comes with a Highlighting Comb and Color Guide Formula (upon application, temporary color indicates where your highlights will appear). Or opt for Revlon High Dimension Color Accents Highlighting Kit ($13; at drugstores) with a unique squeeze-bottle applicator comb that mimics the salon weave/foil process and a shampooing toner to reduce brassiness.
